GDS Recruitment 2026: The Indian Postal Department has released the latest notification for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment in January 2026. This time, a total of 29,740 vacancies have been announced. It is a great opportunity for young candidates who want to work in rural areas. Important Dates (Schedule)
- Online Registration: From 31 January 2026 to 14 February 2026 (up to 5:00 PM)
- Last Date to Submit Application: 16 February 2026 (up to 5:00 PM)
- Edit / Correction Window: 18 to 19 February 2026
Please note that only one registration and one application is allowed per candidate. If duplicate applications are found, the candidature will be cancelled.
Job Profile
GDS recruitment is done for three posts:
1. Branch Postmaster (BPM)
The Branch Postmaster is responsible for running the Branch Post Office and handling daily work of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB). This includes postal services, marketing, and mail delivery. Before joining, the BPM must arrange his or her own accommodation to run the post office.
2. Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
The ABPM helps the BPM in daily work. Duties include mail conveyance, doorstep delivery, selling stamps and stationery, and handling IPPB transactions.
3. Dak Sevak
Dak Sevaks work in departmental post offices. Their duties include mail sorting, bag handling, and assisting postmen in various tasks.
GDS employees are not regular government employees. Their service conditions are governed by the Gramin Dak Sevak (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020.
Salary and Allowances
GDS employees are paid Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA), which increases by 3% every year. They also receive Dearness Allowance (DA) and other social security benefits.
- BPM TRCA: Rs 12,000 to Rs 29,380 per month
- ABPM / Dak Sevak TRCA: Rs 10,000 to Rs24,470 per month
Age Limit and Educational Qualification
- Age Limit: Minimum 18 years and maximum 40 years (relaxation as per rules)
Age Relaxation
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- PwBD + OBC: 13 years
- PwBD + SC/ST: 15 years
Educational Qualification
Candidates must have passed Class 10 from a recognized board with Mathematics and English as compulsory subjects. Knowledge of the local language up to Class 10 level is also required.
Selection Process
- Selection will be done only on merit basis.
- The merit list will be prepared based on Class 10 marks percentage up to four decimal places.
- If grades or grade points are mentioned in the marksheet, marks will be calculated using a multiplication factor of 9.5.
- Candidates do not need to convert grades into marks themselves. They should enter grades as mentioned in the marksheet.

Fee Exemption
All female candidates, SC/ST candidates, PwBD candidates, and transgender candidates are exempted from paying the application fee.
- Fee can be paid online using Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, or UPI.
- The paid fee is non-refundable under any circumstances.
- Fee payment can be done only up to 16 February 2026, 5:00 PM.
